Climb Up to the Mountain Man

I haven't been too excited by the new music I've encountered as of late. And as a result, I've been a musical nomad of sorts, hiding safely in the confines of my iPod. I didn't know what I was missing until I went to see Jonsí at the Hammerstein Ballroom here in NY. And while Jonsi, no doubt, took my breath away, I walked away with a new love in the form of a fabulous all-female trio that goes by the name of Mountain Man, Jonsí's opener.

Mountain Man

Mountain Man spew wonderfully ethereal harmonies, often without instrumental accompaniment. I'm a sucker for a great female voice. I lap up great harmonies like a dog who found spilled milk. I gladly absorb lyrical purity that cleanses my pores.

Well, I am sucking, lapping, and absorbing all in the name of Mountain Man.

I ordered their CD, Made the Harbor, and have been glued to it since. I 100% recommend this album, definitely one of the best of the year.

These ladies evoke an energy with their voices that is infectious and soothing. Their voices filled up the Hammerstein. Their music almost feels old, and I mean that in the most complementary of ways. Like finding an amazing vintage piece that has just the right amount of new, making it immediately welcoming and wonderful. Fresh as ever.

One of my favorite songs they performed was called "Play it Right". It will stick in your head because it is awesomely catchy. Unfortunately it's not available on their CD, but a video of them performing it can be found here: Play It Right.

Their music acts as the shock paddle to my fading pulse. I am rejuvenated by Mountain Man's Made the Harbor.

Welcome, All 2 of You!

Greetings!

On this blog we will discuss the music, film, television, etc. that we normally reserve for our weekly nerd meetings.

We are sure to pioneer the field of mixing blogging with the most awesome of daily distractions (no one blogs about entertainment, right?).

At times, we don't agree and are as stubborn as the glue stuck to your shoe. And, oh yeah.. we are derived from the same parents.
